Welcome to the fungi foraging blog – ‘Mushroom Diary’. My name is John Harris from Blaby, Leicestershire, and since becoming a recent fan of the mushroom hunt, either for food or simple curiosity in identification, I decided to log all my casual excursions and fungi discoveries via this web log.
Anyone who stumbles across this blog is free to register or leave a comment.
I have been seriously hunting mushrooms since mid-2007, and class myself as a very enthusiastic amateur. But I swat up and cross reference with several books in identifying all my finds. In some cases I may get an identification wrong or cannot be certain (don’t worry, anything I’m not sure of, I simply don’t eat – good rule!)
Keeping notes and photos like this should help myself and others build their knowledge further in identification and understanding mushrooms. As this blog grows, I hope it will also act as a good reference point for the budding mycologist.
Last and by no means least, please do not treat this site as a reliable mushroom identification source (especially for identifying edible species). Please use specialist identification books (several if possible) or an experienced professional’s advice and common sense. I know you will!
I hope this online community source is useful and interesting to those who visit. Remember, after you’ve finished browsing, get yourself out there and see what the wonderful world of mushrooms has to offer…
